D-Day
D-Day was June 6, 1944. On D-Day some 156,000 American, British and Candian forces landed on the beaches of Normandy in France. This was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history. The Normandy landings have been called the beginning of the end of the war in Europe. D-Day was a turning point in the war against the Germans. There were some things that went wrong on D-Day that made the death toll go up. There was heavy cloud cover which made it hard for planes to hit their targets. More than 4,000 Allied troops lost their lives in the D-Day invasion. Oddly, the d in D- day stands for day so D- day means day day, who know!
